Bulky items
In Ville-Marie, the Plateau, Le Sud-Ouest and Verdun, mattresses, box springs and upholstered sofas or armchairs go out with household garbage. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners require an approved recovery option, such as an écocentre or an available retailer/GoRecycle program, because of their refrigerants.[1][2][3]
Bulky items
Montreal's curbside bulky-item and construction-debris collection is for private individuals only; businesses must hire a private company, and residents who ignore the Info-collectes schedule or set-out rules can be fined.[4][5]
Vehicle
Montréal’s trucking guidance states that half of Québec’s intercity truck trips pass through the island. Truckers must follow specific rules and a designated street network; consult the official trucking map for the planned route.[6][7]
Permit
Calgary requires a Street Use Permit for exclusive use of its road right-of-way, including reserving moving space or placing a moving container. A curb no-parking restriction also needs a Temporary No Parking Permit, applied for together.[8]
Parking
Calgary’s minimum review periods are 5, 10 or 15 business days according to impact, starting with a complete compliant application. The permit holder obtains authorized third-party signs and installs them at least 12 hours ahead, displaying the approved dates and times.[8]
Permit
Calgary has a separate special truck-route process for restricted-road travel in special circumstances. Apply through 311, or 403-268-2489 from outside the city. This permit has no fee; the requesting organization receives an approval letter only after approval. It is not required for every ordinary delivery.[9]
Health coverage
If you move to Alberta from another province and plan to stay 12 months or more, you must register for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) within 3 months of establishing residency, through a registry agent.[10][11][12]
Health coverage
For an eligible interprovincial resident who applies on time, AHCIP normally starts on the first day of the third month after establishing residency: July 12 means October 1. Confirm coverage with your previous plan during the transition; military families and families moving separately can have different dates.[10][11]
Driver’s licence
New Alberta residents with a valid licence from another Canadian province or territory must exchange it within 90 days; travel outside Alberta does not restart the period. Surrender the old licence at a registry agent. Under this Canadian exchange pathway, classes 3–6 require no knowledge or road test.[13]
Vehicle
New Alberta residents must switch their vehicle to an Alberta registration within 90 days of moving, at a registry agent, with proof of ownership, proof of valid insurance, ID and any required out-of-province inspection.[14]
Lease
For an ordinary Québec dwelling lease, a tenant who has received no change notice and wants to leave at term must give notice 3–6 months before the end of a lease of 12 months or more, or 1–2 months before a shorter lease ends. A room lease has a separate 10–20-day notice period.[15]

Arrival checklist
driveway or condo arrival planning, protected unloading, and flexible staging
Packing trigger
Packing is most useful here when fragile rooms, condo windows, or older stairwells leave little room for improvisation.
Storage trigger
Storage is useful when possession timing, weather disruptions, or phased business occupancy leave a gap between pickup and delivery.

Unless an exemption applies, a vehicle registered outside Alberta needs an out-of-province inspection before Alberta plates are issued. Obtain the inspection request from a registry agent, then present the certificate within 14 days or another inspection is required.
Hydro-Québec lets customers report a move free of charge in its online Espace client as soon as they know the new address and date; doing it by phone costs $25 plus taxes (514 385-7252 in Montréal, 1 888 385-7252 elsewhere).
