How our pricing model prices distance

Up to 800 km
Hourly calculation: loading, the drive and unloading are billed as crew and truck hours, plus $0.85/km. Dates require separate confirmation.
800 to 1,800 km
Dedicated truck with 2 drivers: driving, at an 85 km/h average and at most 11 hours a day, is billed separately with travel allowances and a partial empty return, plus $0.85/km.
Over 1,800 km
This model version requires coordinator assessment before a price is offered.
Small loads
Beyond 800 km, a load up to 1,500 lb and 350 cu ft requires review. A coordinator confirms shared or partial-load options, availability and pricing.

How these figures were produced

  • Distances and durations are calculation assumptions for these examples. The actual route and driving time must be established for the specific addresses.
  • A few items: a loveseat, a dresser, a mattress, a bicycle and 10 boxes (170 cu ft, 702 lb).
  • 1 bedroom: one bedroom set, a sofa and armchair, a dining set for four and 25 boxes (463 cu ft, 2,091 lb).
  • 3 bedrooms: three bedroom sets, a sofa and a loveseat, a dining set for six, a washer and dryer and 60 boxes (1,129 cu ft, 5,105 lb).
  • Loads up to 1,500 lb and 350 cu ft with a distance above 800 km require coordinator review. Shared or partial-load availability and pricing must be confirmed.
  • Above 1,800 km, this model version requires coordinator assessment before a price can be offered.
  • Ground-floor access at both addresses (no stairs, no elevator) unless a column says otherwise.
  • Neutral scenario with no booking date, postal-zone or capacity adjustment. Your selected date, addresses and services can change the quote.
  • Pricing version moving-freight-tax-ca-20260810-v2, captured 2026-09-27. Moving base amounts are in CAD before tax, with upward rounding in $25 increments.

Licence and vehicle deadlines after a move between provinces

Latest source review: September 27, 2026. Individual access dates appear below.

  • Driver’s licence

A new Québec resident may drive a passenger vehicle, motorcycle or moped with a valid licence from another jurisdiction for six consecutive months, provided the licence authorizes that vehicle category. Start the Québec licence application after settling.[1][2]

  • Vehicle

When you move to Québec from another province, the law gives you 90 days to register your vehicle in Québec.[3]

  • Driver’s licence

New Ontario residents have 60 days to exchange their licence. Eligible Canadian licences may be exchanged, with requirements depending on class, status and driving experience; learner permits and certain other licence categories are excluded.[4][5]

  • Vehicle

When moving to Ontario with an ordinary passenger vehicle, register it within 30 days at ServiceOntario. Bring insurance, prior ownership or registration documents and the required safety standards certificate.[6][7][8]

  • Driver’s licence

New B.C. residents have 90 days to switch to a B.C. driver’s licence. ICBC advises preparing the required documents and booking a driver-licensing appointment once they are ready.[9]

  • Driver’s licence

New Alberta residents with a valid licence from another Canadian province or territory must exchange it within 90 days; travel outside Alberta does not restart the period. Surrender the old licence at a registry agent. Under this Canadian exchange pathway, classes 3–6 require no knowledge or road test.[10]

  • Vehicle

New Alberta residents must switch their vehicle to an Alberta registration within 90 days of moving, at a registry agent, with proof of ownership, proof of valid insurance, ID and any required out-of-province inspection.[11]

  • Vehicle

A non-exempt used vehicle entering Nova Scotia generally needs inspection within 30 days and before registration; the Registry can issue a letter allowing 10 days after registration. Qualifying valid New Brunswick or P.E.I. inspections are among the exemptions. Check the inspection and registration rules separately.[12][13]

What this means for your move

  • Moving to Ontario with a car? You have 30 days to register it, and the plates need a safety standards certificate that stays valid 36 days: book the inspection early.[6][7][8][14][15]

What Counts as a Long-Distance Move?

Local moves stay within one metro area. Long-distance moves connect cities or provinces such as Montreal to Toronto, Toronto to Calgary, Vancouver to Edmonton, or Halifax to Montreal.

They require additional planning for travel days, overnight stops, realistic delivery windows, and the protection that keeps belongings safe during extended transport.

Not every long-distance move fills a truck. We also handle small loads and partial moves across Canada — a studio, a few rooms, or a handful of furniture pieces — by pairing your shipment with our scheduled routes, so long-distance shipping stays realistic for smaller moves.

Compare the coordinated way to manage moves

Compare a coordinated move workflow against fragmented quoting, dispatch, updates, and proof spread across separate tools.

Canadian Service Corridors & Coverage

For a pickup in Westmount, NDG, Côte-Saint-Luc, Town of Mount Royal, Griffintown, Beaconsfield or elsewhere in the West Island, include both addresses and your date flexibility in the request. A coordinator confirms whether the route and loading arrangement are available.

Long-Distance Movers FAQ

How does your pricing model price a long-distance move?

Up to 800 km, as crew and truck hours plus $0.85/km. Beyond that, as a dedicated truck with 2 drivers: driving, at an 85 km/h average and at most 11 hours a day, is billed separately with travel allowances and a partial empty return, plus $0.85/km. Over 1,800 km, a coordinator builds the quote.

What is a shared or partial load, and why offer it?

In the Montreal → Halifax example assuming 1,242 km, the dedicated-truck calculation gives $6,800 for the studio inventory and $7,100 for the 3-bedroom inventory, in CAD before tax. This is a cost illustration, not an available small-load quote: that load requires review. Above 800 km, loads up to 1,500 lb and 350 cu ft go to a coordinator who must confirm shared or partial-load options and pricing.

What driving duration does the Montreal → Halifax example use?

The calculation assumes 1,242 km, producing 2 road days at the model's pace (85 km/h and 11 hours per day), plus loading and unloading. Actual addresses, routing and dates must be confirmed.

Why is there no automatic price for Toronto → Vancouver?

This example assumes 4,423 km, above the captured version's 1,800 km automatic limit. A coordinator must assess the move before offering a price.

Does the moving date change the price?

Date and notice can change a quote. These examples use no booking date and exclude calendar, postal-zone and capacity adjustments. The short-notice comparison isolates only one model time allowance.
