Buildings
The broader Downtown Community Area’s 2021 census records 10,890 apartments in buildings of five or more storeys and 8,655 in shorter apartment buildings, alongside 10,720 detached houses. Its structural-type total is 32,495 occupied private dwellings: downtown does not mean a single access pattern.[1]
Households
In the Downtown Community Area’s separate 2021 tenure table, 21,435 of 32,500 households rented, or 66.0%. The household-size table reports 14,535 one-person households. These describe the wider census area, not the furniture or tenancy of a particular downtown address.[1]
Buildings
Downtown Community Area’s 2021 construction-period table places 18,050 dwellings, or 55.5%, in buildings completed in 1960 or earlier. This historic-stock measure does not establish elevator dimensions, stair widths or heritage designation at your building.[1]
Permit
Winnipeg’s Loading/Unloading Use of Street permit authorizes trucks to occupy a specified street space for a defined period. It is distinct from Annual Curb Lane Usage, which does not authorize ordinary parking of licensed vehicles.[2]
Snow removal
Once Winnipeg’s winter-route ban is announced and in force, designated WINTER ROUTE and SNOW ROUTE streets prohibit parking from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. The address-search map identifies the affected routes; the two sign names have the same meaning.[3]
Parking
A Winnipeg residential parking permit applies to its specific residential zone and does not override snow bans or street-work signs. Notify the Parking Authority through 311 when your address changes or the permit is no longer needed.[4]

Open WinnipegThe community-area table contains both tall and shorter apartment buildings, as well as houses. Identify the actual floor, elevator or stair route, and entrance at your address. For an elevator move, ask the building manager for the loading-door location and reservation instructions before selecting a truck window. Census height categories cannot establish the elevator’s size or whether the moving truck can use the building’s private loading area.
The broader area has many one-person and renter households, but a one-person household can still have a full furniture set or storage outside the apartment. List the actual bed, seating, tables, boxes and any separate storage; then describe the exit route through the building. Use the visible model’s listed inventory as a comparison, rather than treating the census household count as your move’s measured volume.
The residential permit is limited to its zone and still obeys snow and street-work restrictions. Winnipeg separately identifies a Loading/Unloading Use of Street permit for a defined truck space and time. Describe the address and loading window to the permit office, and check the winter-route map if applicable. Ask which authorization applies; do not assume the resident permit grants exclusive curb space.
