The Centre Plan describes Historic Dartmouth Neighbourhoods as compact grid lots with mostly 2-storey homes and compact footprints. It identifies Austenville, Hawthorne and Hazelhurst as separate local traditions.[1]

Street access
The plan’s Historic Dartmouth commercial precinct includes Portland and Ochterloney between Victoria Road and Alderney Drive. Portland links to the ferry terminal and waterfront; the commercial precinct differs from nearby residential areas.[1]

Halifax’s transit guide distinguishes the Alderney service linking downtown Dartmouth and Halifax from the Woodside service linking its own Dartmouth terminal to Halifax. The 2 Dartmouth terminal names are separate geographic landmarks.[2]

Halifax By-law S-300 prohibits obstructing a street without first obtaining a permit from the Engineer. The Engineer may impose conditions, require a damage deposit or refuse permission in the public interest.
