Vancouver to Toronto moving cost guide

Treat this as a corridor planning range, not a flat quote. tower booking windows, rain-sensitive loading, and waterfront delivery constraints and condo delivery access, protected unloading, and final-mile scheduling inside the GTA are what usually change the route plan.

Distance sets the baseline. Packing, storage, access, and delivery timing can still change the final route plan.

Vancouver → Toronto: rules that affect moving costs

Latest source review: September 29, 2026. Individual access dates appear below.

  • Bulky items

Vancouver Landfill limits mattress and box-spring recycling to 4 items per customer per day, effective June 1, 2025; Vancouver South Transfer Station also lists a 4-per-day maximum. For more than 4 mattresses, the City directs residents to a private recycler. Fees and acceptance conditions still apply; street or alley dumping is prohibited.[1]

  • Parking

Toronto’s temporary resident/guest permits are not general commercial-truck permits. Eligible vans or pickups must meet personal/family-use conditions, a maximum length of 5.2 m and registered gross weight of 3,000 kg.[2]

  • Parking

A Toronto temporary permit does not override parking prohibitions or temporary snow-removal restrictions. It is non-transferable and non-refundable, and applies only at the signed locations and times allowed by the permit rules.[2]

  • Parking

Toronto’s commercial loading zones are public space for active loading or unloading, with no exclusive right for one user. Check the posted operating times; a nearby loading sign does not reserve a bay for the full duration of a move.[3][4]

  • Permit

For temporary street occupation, Toronto requires dates, times and a plan of the proposed area. The permit cannot extend beyond the property’s street frontage unless the adjoining owner gives written consent and waives related claims against the City. Confirm the applicable permit with Right of Way Management for the actual equipment and address.[5]

  • Vehicle

An ordinary passenger vehicle brought from another province needs an Ontario safety standards certificate to obtain plates. The certificate is valid for 36 calendar days after inspection at a DriveON centre; other vehicle categories can be exempt.[6][7]

  • Vehicle

When moving to Ontario with an ordinary passenger vehicle, register it within 30 days at ServiceOntario. Bring insurance, prior ownership or registration documents and the required safety standards certificate.[8][9][10]

  • Health coverage

BC PharmaCare stops once you move permanently out of B.C., and it cannot be claimed during the temporary MSP coverage that follows the move.[11]

  • Lease

British Columbia month-to-month tenants must give one full rental month’s written notice before the rent-due day. Most fixed terms continue month-to-month unless ended correctly; leaving a fixed term early can create compensation liability. Do not treat the moving booking as the tenancy notice.[12]

  • Lease

British Columbia tenants must normally leave by 1 p.m. on the last tenancy day, usually month-end. A different date or time needs an agreement in writing signed by both parties; coordinate the pickup window against that handover instead of assuming access all afternoon.[12]

How these figures were produced

  • Assumptions for this example: 4,417 km and 58 h 37 min of driving. Confirm the route for the move's addresses and conditions.
  • Above 1,800 km, this model version requires coordinator assessment before a price can be offered.
  • Neutral scenario with no booking date, postal-zone or capacity adjustment. Your selected date, addresses and services can change the quote.
  • Packing labour, storage, disassembly and other add-ons are not included.

Pricing and planning FAQ

Can ending the Vancouver lease early leave a cost outside this moving illustration?

Yes. BC guidance distinguishes proper full-rental-month notice from breaking a fixed term early, which can create compensation liability. Most fixed terms continue month-to-month unless ended correctly. Identify the applicable agreement and any written alternative before selecting pickup day. Tenants normally leave by 1 p.m. on the last tenancy day; a different time needs both parties’ written agreement. None of those lease obligations is calculated by the household-goods model shown here, and a manually reviewed transport price does not resolve them. Keep the lease settlement, pickup window and shipment price as separate parts of the relocation plan.

What if more Vancouver mattresses are being discarded than the municipal daily limit?

The City directs quantities over four mattresses or box springs to a private recycler rather than promising municipal acceptance for the excess. Confirm the disposal party, daily quantity and applicable fees before removing those pieces from the transported load. The example is not a disposal offer. For the remaining goods, Toronto shared loading space and any street occupation still need their own receiving arrangement. An Ontario vehicle Safety Standards Certificate, where required for registration, is another household cost or task to confirm separately; it is not a charge embedded in this inventory-based transport model.
